Philip H. Behr
• Philip H. Behr was born in Boston and grew up there and later in suburban Philadelphia. He is a graduate of the Episcopal Academy, Denison University, and the Harvard Business School.
• He served in the U.S. Navy as a carrier-based deck and public affairs officer from 1963-1966.
• He began his business career in 1968 with Time Inc. and served on the publishing side of Time magazine in New York and Canada for three years until entering the field of corporate finance and investment banking with Butcher & Sherrerd in 1971.
• For most of his career, Mr. Behr has been a pioneer and principal investor in the field of management buyouts of successful privately-owned companies whose purchases were negotiated away from the auction process where the importance of the nature of ownership succession exceeded that of money. He was the lead investor in the acquisition of Joy Technologies, Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, Forster Manufacturing, Paco Packaging, and many other companies.
• He serves on the board of Coffin Turbo Pump, Inc. and Waterways Cruises, Inc.
• He is active in civic affairs in the City and region and was a founding member of the Greater Philadelphia Partnership.
• Mr. Behr also is founder and co-Chair of City Year Greater Philadelphia, America's pre-eminent youth corps comprising young people from all backgrounds who passionately dedicate themselves to a year of national service and civic engagement as part of their academic journey.
• He is married and the father of three grown children. His interests include traditional sports as well as more strenuous athletic challenges and competitions.
• He belongs to the Racquet Club of Philadelphia, and the Merion Cricket and Golf Clubs.
